I have always kept track of birthdays and anniversaries using either Outlook or Apple Calendar. They both work great in doing that, but I wanted a system that would allow me to visually see what special days were ahead without needing to turn on my computer. I set out on Pinterest to see if I could find a solution and of course there was an overload of ideas. The one that stuck with me was to use a Rolodex system. There were so many adorable examples, like this one and these. I already had a paper pack that would be perfect for making the dividers all I needed was to get a Rolodex. I decided to get this 250 card one which is a bit much for what I needed, but the 125 card one had blank cards and I liked the idea of having a card that had lines on one side and info on the other side.
I wanted to be able to keep the original dividers that came with the Rolodex so the first thing that I did was scan one of them so I could use it as a template to create something to cut out with my Cameo. I imported the scanned image into Silhouette Design Studio and then resized it to make sure that it was the correct dimensions of the actual divider. Then I used bunch of squares, rectangles and rounded rectangles to create the divider. I tried to keep the design as close to the original as possible but I really just wanted to make sure that the slots in the bottom of the card lined up. Once the main part of the divider was created I used a label file that I had to create the space for the month name.
I wanted both the front & back of the divider to be from the patterned paper so I cut out two mirrored images from each paper. Each month got it’s own color and I even worked in a few rainbow patterned papers. Once they were all cut out I ran one of each through my Xyron with the removable adhesive cartridge and then adhered them together. Originally I was going to match the month label to the color of the paper but decided that using a greyish black color would give it more “pop”.
I used the lined side of the card to write the date of the special day & the person’s name. I plan on adding the year as well, so I can remember how old all of they are, there are way too many of them to keep track. The back of the card has the address so I can easily address the envelope without even looking at my computer. I love that I can easily tell how many cards I will have to make in a month and which months I can just be creative without a purpose.
